The size of a single bed is 90cm x 190cm (3 feet wide x 6 feet 2 inches in length).
In the UK and Ireland, there is no official standard measurement, however, the majority of manufacturers conform to this size.

It’s worth knowing that manufacturers can also work to certain tolerances. This means that your mattress may vary slightly in size compared to what is advertised. However, tolerances tend to be very minor and shouldn’t affect the functionality of your mattress.

Single bed sizes can vary quite a bit throughout European countries. We’ve put together a few common examples of single mattress measurements for you to compare.
The most common single bed size sold by retailers in Europe is 90 cm x 200cm or 120 cm x 200 cm. Lengths of 210 cm & 220 cm can sometimes also be obtained via special order.
Although 90 cm x 200 cm is a common single mattress size in Europe. These dimensions can vary slightly by country.
For France, single bed sizes are most commonly 90 cm x 190 cm; much like the UK and Ireland.
In Italy, there are 2 common sizes for a single bed. These are 80 cm x 190 cm and 90 cm x 190 cm.
In Switzerland, the most regular single bed size is 90 cm x 200 cm. However, especially amongst young people, a 140 cm x 200 cm single mattress is also commonplace.
In Portugal, a single mattress can often measure either 80 cm x 190 cm or 90 cm x 190 cm.
Spain, also tends to use 90 cm x 190 cm as standard measurement for a single bed size.
Single Mattress Size for North America
America has plenty of different bed sizes, some you will have heard of and some you may not have.
A single bed (or twin as it is commonly referred to) is measured in inches as opposed to centimeters. This is because America is one of only 3 countries to have not adopted the metric measuring system.
In North America, a standard size single mattress measures 38.5” x 74.5”. In centimeters, this would be (98 cm x 189 cm). Due to the conversions from inches to centimeters, American single bed sizes can seem irregular when displayed in cm.
